Winch force changes based on how much cable is wrapped around the drum. The winch has the most pulling force on the first cable layer because the cable is closest to the drum center. As more cable wraps onto the drum, the cable sits farther from the center, increasing the radius and reducing the available pulling force. View the cable layer force explanation.

A Double Drum GOLO winch uses a driven power drum and an idler drum to move cable in a controlled way. Depending on the setup, the winch can be fixed in place to move an external load, used to move a load vertically, or mounted directly on the load itself.
The linked visual shows the basic cable path, including cable in, cable out, the idler drum, and the driven power drum. View the Double Drum winch explanation.
